IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) has made it mandatory to link your Aadhaar to the insurance policy. IRDAI asked general and life insurers to implement the rules without expecting any further instructions. Customers can easily update their KYC details including PAN and Aadhaar.
IRDAI has applied this rule to protect the interest of and ensure fair treatment to policyholders. There are 24 life insurance companies and 33 general insurers including standalone health insurers and it is important for every insurer to link their aadhaar to the insurance policy.
If you are unaware of what and how to do the same, here’s everything you need to know while linking your aadhaar to an insurance policy.
One of the easiest ways to update your aadhaar is online linking (for registered users). You just have to log in to the customer service portal of the insurance company and add your aadhaar details to your profile.
Another method of linking your aadhaar is online linking (for non-registered users). The policyholder can visit the insurance company website and complete the process. Here you have to provide your details such as date of birth, PAN, mobile number, policy number, aadhaar number and e-mail id.
When you update your aadhaar number using any of the above methods, you will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and your aadhaar number will be successfully registered.
Offline linking is one more way you can opt for updating the aadhaar. The policyholders can visit their insurance agents or nearest branch office of the insurance company. You need to carry your aadhaar and a self-attested copy of aadhaar to complete the process.
Always remember your aadhaar is required for all the new policies.
